Claire Stewart, executive director of Engagement, Marketing and Communications at Leeds, has always believed in the power of a good story. Her background in ad agency work and higher ed marketing has fueled her passion for highlighting the people and programs that make education meaningful.

What makes higher education storytelling unique?

While there are thousands of industries and brands to market, higher education is especially compelling when it comes to storytelling. Colleges and universities can change the trajectory of students’ lives and provide them with the tools to be successful—personally and professionally. Higher education marketers get to tell the transformational stories of those who have benefited from the power of education.

What leadership skill has served you the most?

Effective communication. Successful leaders can read a situation and determine the message, delivery, timing and action needed to make positive changes within their organization. It’s important for leaders to have a high emotional quotient so they can bring empathy, situational awareness, and proactive solutions to every discussion and project.Ìý

What excited you most about joining Leeds?

While Leeds is a top business school in the nation, it has been somewhat of a hidden gem among other business schools. I love being able to promote, amplify and cheer on the great work happening here to grow the school’s national and international recognition.

Fun fact?

I’ve played competitive volleyball for 23 years on grass, sand and indoors. Last year, my team won its division at the USAV Adult Volleyball National Championships in Denver.

Which two Leeds values best describe your experience?

Responsibility: Leeds’ and Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder’s commitment to integrating social responsibility into the work we do and the programs we offer sets us apart. Being good stewards of our community and our planet is of utmost importance.Ìý
Excellence: In my experience at Leeds, everyone holds themselves to the highest standards of quality, commitment and integrity.

ÌýAssume that everyone is doing the best they can. Once you believe that, you can show up to your job, your relationships, and your life with more empathy and understanding. I truly believe that mindset can change the way you view the world.ÌýÌý
