Congressman Joe

Joe Neguse proudly represents Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, a vast and largely rural region spanning more than 12,000 square miles. Now in his third term, he made history as the first Black Member of Congress from Colorado and currently serves on the Natural Resources, Judiciary, and Rules Committees, while also acting as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Federal Lands. Recognized as one of the most effective lawmakers in the country, he has earned bipartisan praise and authored a significant number of laws, reflecting his commitment to collaboration and results. In March 2024, he was unanimously elected House Assistant Minority Leader, becoming the first Coloradan in nearly 90 years to serve in senior Democratic leadership. Before Congress, Neguse served in the Governor’s Cabinet as Executive Director of Colorado’s consumer protection agency, where he led efforts to combat fraud and recover millions for consumers. He also previously served on the University of Colorado Board of Regents, advocating for affordability and access in higher education. The son of immigrants from Eritrea, his public service is driven by a deep belief in expanding opportunity and strengthening democratic institutions. In Congress, he has focused on protecting public lands, supporting rural communities, and lowering costs for working families while addressing issues like healthcare, housing, and public safety.
