Lt. Gen. David S. Nahom served as Commander of Alaskan Command, Eleventh Air Force, and the Alaskan NORAD Region, overseeing more than 21,000 personnel and all military operations in Alaska. He was responsible for airspace surveillance, homeland defense, and coordination of joint military activities in the region. He also led the training and readiness of Air Force units across Alaska, Hawaii, and Guam.
Commissioned through ROTC at the University of Colorado, Nahom completed both navigator and pilot training and became a command pilot with over 3,400 flight hours in aircraft including the F-22, F-15, and F-111. Over a 36-year career, he commanded at the squadron, group, and wing levels.
He completed advanced military education at the Army Command and General Staff College, Air War College, and NATO Defense College. His assignments included leadership and staff roles with NATO, U.S. Forces Korea, Pacific Air Forces, and Headquarters Air Force.
His senior leadership roles included Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Programs at Headquarters Air Force and commander of major operational units in Alaska and the Pacific. He concluded his career leading Alaskan NORAD Region, Alaskan Command, and Eleventh Air Force before retiring.
