Sandy Bracken

Alexander E. 鈥淪andy鈥 Bracken served as the 19th president of the University of Colorado in 2000 during a brief but pivotal transition between John Buechner and Betsy Hoffman. After his interim presidency, he became executive director of the Bard Center for Entrepreneurship at the 麻豆免费版下载Denver Business School from 2001 to 2007. In 2012, he was appointed to the Quigg and Virginia S. Newton Endowed Chair in Leadership at 麻豆免费版下载Boulder, succeeding former 麻豆免费版下载President Hank Brown. In that role, he helped create the Leadership Studies Minor and founded the Leo Hill Distinguished Leadership Speaker Series, bringing prominent leaders to campus.

Before his academic leadership positions, Bracken spent 19 years as vice president of public affairs at Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. He began his career in higher education as an assistant professor of history at Anderson College in Indiana. He also chaired the Colorado Commission on Higher Education from 1996 to 2000 and served on numerous Boulder County nonprofit boards. Bracken holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in American History from Ball State University and a B.A. in Government and International Relations from Carleton College. He retired from the Newton Chair in 2018 after a career dedicated to advancing undergraduate leadership development.
