Judith Albino

Judith E. N. Albino served as the 17th president of the University of Colorado from 1991 to 1995, becoming the first woman to lead the university system. Her presidency came during a time of political change and growing demand to better support a diverse student body. She prioritized undergraduate education and expanded opportunities for underrepresented students and faculty.

Before becoming president, Albino served as CU’s vice president for academic affairs and dean of the graduate school. She began her academic career at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where she rose to associate provost. A defining moment of her presidency came in 1994 when she approved the creation of an ethnic studies department at Âé¶¹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder.

Albino earned her Ph.D. and B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. After her presidency, she served as president of Alliant International University from 1997 to 2004 and later returned to Colorado in leadership roles, including interim dean at the Colorado School of Public Health. She holds the titles of President Emerita and Professor Emerita at Âé¶¹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØand remains active as a leadership coach and consultant.
