Awardees exhibit innovation that directly reduces the university's ecological footprint, enhances social cohesion and equity in the campus communityÌýand/or integrates sustainability into the culture of Boulder and our local communities.

Dorothy Noble, our EVEN lab manager, accepted theÌýÂ鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØGreen Labs AwardÌý on behalf our SEEL Environmental Engineering Labs. Our LabsÌýwere nominated by Erin Printy, the SEEC Building Manager.ÌýTheÌýEnvironmental Engineering Laboratories located at SEEL are a shared laboratory that optimizes space and resources making the laboratory energyÌýefficient and reducing our impact on the environment.Ìý In recognition of our actions to promote sustainability in the science community, we were awarded the Green Labs Program Award for our efforts.

Our EVEN alumniÌýTyler Huggins and JustinÌýWhiteley, whoÌýreceived his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØ, also got aÌýSpecial RecognitionsÌýaward for commercializing the technology they developed at Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØthat uses fungi to clean brewery wastewater and simultaneously produce high performance materials and protein.ÌýCEO and Co-founder of Emergy Labs, Tyler Huggins, received his PhD in Environmental Engineering at Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder where he studied wastewater treatment and successfully ran several cleantech startups. Tyler Huggins and Justin WhiteleyÌýwere selected as first cohort of the DOE national competition for their project onÌýRecycling and energy storage industries.
