EDUC 4015: International / Comparative Education

The School of Education is offering an undergraduate course titled EDUC 4015: International & Comparative Education in the Spring 2026 semester. 

  • All students are invited to enroll (not only Education students).
  • EDUC 4015 counts toward Education Studies majors and Education minors

EDUC 4015: International & Comparative Education

This course introduces students to the field of Comparative and International Education. We will use historical, anthropological, sociological, philosophical, and economic lenses to analyze educational policies, organizations, goals, and trends in countries around the world. Students will have opportunities to conduct case study research on countries/world regions and topics of their interest.
  • Mondays & Wednesdays: In-Person from 10:10 to 11 a.m.
  • Fridays: Asynchronous component

Some Questions We Will Explore

  • What is the relationship between colonialism, globalization, and education?  
  • How do culture, politics, and ideologies shape current global educational practices? 
  • How do international organizations -- like the United Nations, The World Bank, Peace Corps -- influence international education?

About the Instructor

Kyle Kopsick has taught multiple sections of EDUC 3013: School & Society. As a Fulbright Fellow, he conducted a year-long ethnography of an International Baccalaureate school in Costa Rica. He was a high school History teacher in Quito, Ecuador for five years.
