How to request a ride
- Download the Buff Ride app:

- Web portal - For the best experience, we recommend downloading the Buff Ride app to your mobile device. If you don鈥檛 have access to a smartphone, you can still log in, create an account, and request rides through the
- Create an account. When you first open the app, you will be prompted to register for a new account. Follow the on-screen prompts to create your login credentials; use your @colorado.edu email address.
- Enter your phone number and tap 鈥淐onfirm鈥
- Notifications: Check the app settings to ensure you have notifications enabled
- Request your ride!
The app provides real-time wait estimates and Buff Ride vehicles offer ADA accessibility.听
Rules of the road
- Buff Ride only operates within Boulder city limits and pickups and drop-offs are only allowed at one of the designated Buff Ride stop locations.
- Service must be requested through the Buff Ride app.
- Buff ride is free to all students, staff, faculty and community members.
- Campus visitors are welcome to download the app and request rides.
- In an effort to maintain efficiency, drivers will wait two minutes for you at the requested stop location. If you miss your ride, your ride will be canceled and you must request a new one. To maintain the reliability of the service, riders who are no-shows for three requested rides in a year will be unable to request rides for the remainder of the year.
- Buff Ride reserves the right to refuse to escort individuals who act in an unsafe manner, exploit the service or harass personnel or their escorts. Acting in an unsafe manner includes, but is not limited to, refusing to follow an driver鈥檚 safety instructions (i.e. not wearing a seat belt), possession of a weapon, or exhibiting violent or threatening behavior. In the event of refusal of service, our staff will make other safe transportation suggestions. If a person is refused service, they may be banned from future use of the service and may face other disciplinary actions from CU.

The Buff Ride van has the capacity to hold 8 riders at one time.
No. One person can book a ride for the whole group. You can schedule your pickup and drop-off up to 7 days in advance and indicate that you鈥檒l be bringing up to 7 additional passengers. When requesting your ride in the app, just choose your pickup and drop-off locations from the 8 designated Buff Ride stops.
Buff Ride is a shared ride service. This means other passengers may be picked up or dropped off along your route. Rides are grouped to maximize efficiency and reduce wait times. When you schedule your ride, the app will provide a predicted drive time that may include brief stops for other passengers to board or exit.
The app will show your predicted pickup time at your selected stop, and your predicted drop-off time at your chosen destination. The same applies to your return trip. These predicted times may include brief stops for other passengers.
You can book rides up to 7 days in advance 鈥 the earlier you submit your request, the better the chance the van can meet your preferred times. For same-day rides, you can request a ride 鈥淎SAP.鈥 The app will show you the earliest available time slot and let you choose from the available options.
The app sends reminders and real-time updates. As your van approaches, you鈥檒l receive a notification so you can head to your selected Buff Ride stop and be ready for pickup.
No 鈥 Buff Ride is free for all students, staff, community members, and visitors. Your guests don鈥檛 need a bus pass or a Buff OneCard to ride. Just make sure their ride is booked through the app, and they鈥檙e good to go!
