Your academic record has been carefully reviewed following the posting of grades for the Fall 2024 semester. You have not met the required 2.000 cumulative �鶹��Ѱ��GPA minimum, therefore, you have been placed on academic suspension and a registration hold has been placed on your record.

Academic suspension is serious and we support your effort to improve your academic standing. Please review the options for reinstatement along with actionable next steps you can take below. For more information, view �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder’s academic standing requirements.

What Happens on Academic Suspension?

As a result of academic suspension, your current Spring 2025 courses will be dropped with the exception of enrollment in Evening Credit, Online Credit, and Applied Music classes offered through the Division of Continuing Education. Note that if you remain enrolled in Continuing Education courses you will need to maintain a 2.300 semester GPA or above for each enrolled semester in Continuing Education. You will not be eligible to enroll in Main Campus courses during the fall or spring semesters until you have completed the requirements for reinstatement after academic suspension through the options explained below, which includes earning the required 2.000 cumulative �鶹��Ѱ��GPA minimum or returning through conditional enrollment.

As a reminder, a registration hold related to your academic suspension status has been placed on your record and your official transcript will show that you are on academic suspension.

In addition, federal regulations require students to make satisfactory academic progress in a program of study to be eligible for financial aid. For additional information, see the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy webpage.

Options for Reinstatement after Academic Suspension

Please consider the following options available to you for raising your cumulative GPA, and view �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder’s academic standing requirements for more detailed information.

Take courses offered through Continuing Education.
Take summer courses at any University of Colorado campus.
Take courses at another accredited college or university.
Take at least one calendar year off with no enrollment at any institution.

Review the following recommended next steps to learn more about your options:

Log in to Buff Portal to view your holds for more information about your suspension status and next steps specific to your college, school or program. (Learn more about how to resolve your holds & to do items.)
Schedule an appointment with your academic advisor/coach. Your academic advisor will help you explore your options given your individual circumstances and assist you with improving your academic standing.
If applicable, you may view your financial aid status in Buff Portal. Students who have a ‘Suspended’ SAP status can submit an appeal form to request a reinstatement of financial aid.
If you are an international student, contact the International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) Office immediately for guidance.

We sent this email on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, to undergraduate students who earned academic dismissal following the Fall 2024 semester.

Your academic suspension status has been carefully reviewed following the posting of grades for the Fall 2024 semester. Unfortunately, your GPA doesn't meet the required minimum GPA for your reinstatement option and this has resulted in academic dismissal.

What Happens on Academic Dismissal?

As a result of academic dismissal, your current Spring 2025 courses will be dropped. As a reminder, a registration hold related to your academic dismissal status has been placed on your record and your official transcript will show that you are on academic dismissal.

Reinstatement after Academic Dismissal
Students who are placed on academic dismissal are eligible to enroll in summer coursework only. Students who enroll in summer classes following an academic dismissal are reviewed according to the following standards at the close of summer classes:

A student who raises their cumulative �鶹��Ѱ��GPA to at least a 2.000 will return to good academic standing;
A student who earns at least a 2.500 summer term GPA, but who still has a cumulative �鶹��Ѱ��GPA below 2.000, may be considered for an academic performance plan (APP) for a subsequent fall or spring semester;
A student who earns a summer term GPA below 2.500 and whose �鶹��Ѱ��cumulative GPA remains below 2.000 may not enroll again until the following summer term.

Note: While students may take summer courses at any University of Colorado campus, �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder does not guarantee admission to the other �鶹��Ѱ��campuses. Grades from all �鶹��Ѱ��coursework are calculated into the cumulative �鶹��Ѱ��GPA.

We sent this email at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, to students who were on a waitlist for one or more Fall 2023 8-Wk Session 2 classes.

Dear [first],

You're still on a class waitlist for 8-Wk Session 2, which began today, Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023. If you don't see this class on your class schedule in Buff Portal, make sure the waitlist toggle is turned on.

While you’re on the waitlist:

Because you aren't enrolled in the class, you won't be charged tuition for it and it won't count toward your enrollment status (e.g., full time, half time).
You will, however, appear on the class roster and have access to the online class materials until waitlists are canceled.
If you're retaking the course for grade replacement, you won't be reviewed for grade replacement eligibility until you're enrolled. Grade replacement is applied for eligible classes at the end of the semester after final grades are submitted.

What Happens Next

If a seat becomes available in your waitlisted class before 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, the next eligible waitlisted student will be enrolled automatically and will receive an email confirmation within 24 hours.

On Wednesday, Oct. 25, waitlists are canceled. If you still aren't enrolled, you'll lose access to the class' online materials and be removed from the class roster. However, you may be eligible to use course reservation the next time that course is offered to guarantee yourself a seat.

New Grade-Change Workflow is Live!

The new grade-change workflow experience went live on Thursday, Oct. 19! Grade-change workflow is the process instructors (or those identified as a proxy) can use to change submitted grades for students on their respective grade rosters. Changes in the new to grade-change workflow experience include:

Enhanced tracking where requests are in progress
More robust communications
Shorter processing window once grade-change requests are approved (from 4 hours to 2 hours)
Ability to submit a grade-change request for discontinued students who are otherwise eligible (previously required a paper COR)
Prevention of submission for students who have graduated
Updated documentation is forthcoming!

Grade-change requests that were submitted prior to the new process going live should still be managed in the former process (primarily in portal). The former grade-change workflow process will remain available until Thursday, Nov. 9 so please be sure to complete any in-progress grade change requests by this date. In-progress requests will not be migrated to the new process and must be completed during this window. All grade-change requests submitted after go-live will be managed in the new workflow process (primarily OnBase and Campus Solutions).

Once we’re exclusively using the new grade-change workflow (Thursday, Nov. 9), this webpage will reflect additional updates and the old instructions will be removed.

Grade-change workflow is the process instructors (or those identified as a proxy) can use to change submitted grades for students on their respective grade rosters. Changes to grade-change workflow are now live.

We are aware of a server issue that occurred in the class registration system on Monday, Aug. 21 between approximately midnight and 1 a.m.

While unfortunately, we are unable to identify the total number of students affected, most students who have contacted us regarding this issue have since reported that they were successfully able to register after this time window passed. If you are still experiencing technical difficulties with registering for your class(es) after retrying, please contact us at registrar@colorado.edu.

We understand the frustration caused by the occurrence of this issue at such a critical time for student registration at the start of open enrollment. We are working with our IT partners and registration system vendors to identify the root cause of the issue and to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

We are aware of a server issue that occurred in the class registration system on Monday, Aug. 21 between approximately midnight and 1 a.m.

As of Aug. 1, 2023, we send this email every Friday to students who indicated in their admission application that they may be eligible for a residency exception due to American Indian Tribal membership.

Dear [first],

We're contacting you because you indicated to us on your admission application that you had a Native American affiliation. We wanted to let you know that registered members of federally recognized American Indian tribes with historical ties to Colorado may qualify for in-state tuition rates based on a new residency exception.

About the Colorado American Indian Tribes Residency Exception

Under the Colorado American Indian Tribes In-State Tuition Act, signed into law on June 28, 2021, a student who would not otherwise qualify for in-state tuition and who is a registered member of one of the federally recognized American Indian tribes with historical ties to Colorado is eligible to be classified as an in-state student for tuition purposes.

How to Apply

If you're a registered member of one of the federally recognized American Indian tribes with historical ties to Colorado, submit the Colorado American Indian tribal membership verification form and all required supporting documents by the first day of classes. The verification form can only be accessed once you have been admitted to the university.

Please allow ten business days for us to review your submission. Review periods may take up to four weeks during our peak processing period (July and August).

If Your Eligibility Is Confirmed

If you submit the verification form and we confirm your eligibility, you’ll be classified as a Colorado resident for tuition purposes.

Please be aware of these potential financial aid impacts:

If you were offered an automatic consideration scholarship (e.g., First Nations, Chancellor’s, Presidential) at the time of admission, you may no longer be eligible for that nonresident scholarship.
If you applied for financial aid and an adjustment to your original offer is needed (e.g., loss of scholarship, different type of grant based on residency, reduced loan amount), the Office of Financial Aid will notify you.

As of Aug. 2, 2023, we send this email every Friday to students who indicated in their admission application that they may be eligible for a residency exception due to military service.

Dear [first],

The Office of Admissions referred you to us because you may qualify for in-state tuition rates based on a military service-related residency exception.

If you believe you already qualify as a Colorado resident without the need to use a military residency exception, follow the instructions in the next section to provide proof of your eligibility.

Qualifying for In-State Tuition as a Colorado Resident

By the first day of class, if you will qualify as a straightforward Colorado resident—either as an adult student with at least 12 months of Colorado domicile or as a dependent student through a parent who is a Colorado resident—you may choose to submit evidence that you are eligible for in-state tuition as a full Colorado resident.

To do so, complete an application for in-state tuition as soon as possible. Please allow three to five business days for this form to be processed.

Military-Related Residency Exceptions

If you do not qualify for in-state tuition as a Colorado resident, you may qualify for in-state tuition through a military residency exception. Please carefully review the list of military exceptions below.

Colorado National Guard: You may be eligible if you or your spouse will be a member of the Colorado National Guard and be stationed in Colorado by the first day of class.
U.S. military active duty member: You may be eligible if you, your spouse or your parent will be on active duty with a permanent change of station (PCS) in Colorado on the first day of class. Submit your verification form and supporting materials no earlier than 30 days prior to the first day of class.
U.S. military member formerly stationed in Colorado (dependent only): You may be eligible if your parent was stationed in Colorado within the last 12 years.
U.S. military veteran: You may be eligible if you were honorably discharged from the armed forces of the United States and are permanently moving to Colorado. Submit the verification after receiving your DD214 and moving to Colorado.
Individual using Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment Assistance: You may be eligible if you're using VR&E assistance under Chapter 31 and will make Colorado your permanent residence on or before the first day of class.
Individual using the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 (Sec. 1005): If you don't qualify through any of the exceptions above and you will be using Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits, you may qualify under this act. Contact �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder's Office of Veteran and Military Affairs for more information.

Submitting Your Military Verification Form

If you’re eligible for one of the military exceptions above, submit the verification form and all required supporting documents (see form) by the end of the fourth week of classes. The form will not be processed if you fail to include all supporting documents.

Please allow five to seven business days for us to review your submission.

New CLSS Scheduling Platform Available for Fall 2023

The Office of the Registrar’s Academic Scheduling team is rolling out CourseLeaf section scheduler (CLSS), a new platform for scheduling at �鶹��Ѱ��Boulder.

Beginning with Fall 2023 scheduling (opens November 2022), scheduling liaisons will be able to use CLSS rather than Campus Solutions to add and revise classes, update class sections, create combined sections and cancel a class.

This transition brings a more user-friendly interface and more power to scheduling liaisons. In-depth trainings will be held in November, and we also look forward to sharing an overview at tomorrow’s town hall.
