Navigating the federal government shutdown

Dear staff, faculty, and graduate students,

Last night, the federal government shut down. Campus leadership, the Research & Innovation Office, the Office of Contracts and Grants, Finance and Business Strategy, Enrollment Management, Student Life, and Human Resources are monitoring the situation closely as it evolves and preparing for possible impacts to federally sponsored projects and programs.

Given the fluid and unpredictable state of the federal government at this time, we are preparing for a wide range of possible impacts. An extended shutdown could expand beyond research operations to impact programs in human resources and other areas. The Department of Education has determined that federal student aid levels are essential and will remain unaffected, though there could be challenges to disbursing student aid.

While we don't know the length of the shutdown, we are making preparations and will be providing guidance to the campus and to units and areas impacted. Also, effects of a shutdown could expand beyond previous shutdown experiences, including the possibility that the government may not reimburse some costs incurred during a shutdown. We will be monitoring this situation closely in partnership with our government affairs, budget, academic and legal partners. You can read the statement from the Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØSystem, sent earlier today, .Ìý

We will continue to share general updates about federal government impacts through the federal government impacts websiteÌýand Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder Today. Research-related updates and information will be shared through our Research and Federal Funding News hubÌýand the RIO Bulletin. Please see the Office of Contracts & Grants homepageÌýfor specific information about federal contracts and grants. Separate notifications are being sent to principal investigators.Ìý
