Zayne Yeager

Zayne Yeager Pearl-Essence

Pearl-Essence

"This piece depicts a trio of street musicians on 11th and Pearl in Boulder, basking in the warm spring sunlight, as light pours through the pedestrian mall and harmonies fill the air. The work explores the activities that contribute to the process of placemaking, how a sense of place emerges not from architecture alone, but from simple, spontaneous acts driven by people and passion. Music, art and recreation are quiet yet powerful forces that help shape public space into places of comfort, connection and gathering. The title 鈥淧earl-Essence鈥 carries a layered meaning, paying homage to the warmth and dynamism of the people who give Pearl Street its soul, while simultaneously evoking the scene鈥檚 lustrous, almost pearlescent glow. Together, this work celebrates the small human moments that transform a location from a mere site into a place we call home."

Zayne Yeager Heart of a City

Heart of a City

"In this drawing, I try to depict the complex dynamic that exists between urban environments and their inhabitants. Here, a dystopian metropolis, suburban housing and sprawling highways all emerge from the skeletal form of a city. Yet a single individual stands in defiance, staring straight into the eyes of the place they inhabit. There鈥檚 a unique sense of anonymity we hold as participants in greater society. Yet the work recognizes that while our surroundings shape who we are, we as individuals also hold the power to influence and redefine the spaces we call home."
