How to Apply

Successful applicants typically will have:

  • An Undergraduate GPA of:
    • MS Applicants - 3.2 or higher
    • PhD Applicants - 3.4 or higher
  • Required:
    • Two semesters of calculus
    • Differential equations with linear algebra OR a focused linear algebra course
    • One semester of calculus-based physics
    • At least two semesters of upper-division undergraduate courses in engineering, computer science, or physical sciences
  • Preferred:
    • Completion of a third semester of calculus
    • Second semester of calculus-based physics, and/or
    • A focused linear algebra course
  • For International Applicants, if applicable, English language scores of:
    • TOEFL: 83 (minimum), 100 (preferred)
    • IELTS: 6.0 (minimum), 7.0 (preferred)
    • Duolingo: 120
  • GRE scores are not required for any applicant.

When you apply, you will need to provide the following materials:

  • Academic History (degrees awarded, dates attended, GPA, and unofficial transcripts from all schools attended)
  • Employment History (starting from the date you began your undergraduate coursework and including dates of employment and position title, plus a CV or resume)
  • English Proficiency Test ScoresÌý(if applicable; please see the Graduate School's English proficiency requirementsÌýfor more information)
  • Letters of Reference
    • Two (2) for MS applicants
    • Three (3) for PhD applicants
  • Personal Statement
    • Maximum of two pages for MS applicants
    • Maximum of three pages for PhD applicants
  • Application Fee

Applications for admission for Fall 2026 will open in mid-July. We do not offer an admission option for the spring semester. Ìý

For current Âé¶¹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØEngineering Students interested in transferring into Robotics

The Robotics Program will accept internal transfers from other departments and programs in the Âé¶¹Ãâ·Ñ°æÏÂÔØBoulder College of Engineering and Applied Science starting in Fall 2024.

Transfers will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the graduate committee through a petition. Please contact Lindsey Morford, robotics program specialist, for further information.
